Shadow's story opens in the midst of a rescue mission of Rouge the Bat, who was sent by G.U.N. Unlike the previous game which had branching paths, the game is entirely linear, with no branching paths, however the player can choose the order of the missions to play out. ![]() The player can now equip 4 weapons at the same time, with the 4th slot being used for empty hands. ![]() The game also includes vehicular levels which act almost like a normal sonic game. Melee combat is also a reliable choice as you can use it while holding a gun. Gunplay in this game is vastly improved, borrowing elements from Yakuza: Dead Souls, Shadow can pick up guns from enemies as well as equip any from the get-go. Shadows walking speed has been reduced, as to fit the level design of the game, which includes linear levels with obstacles. The game still keeps core mechanics from the Sonic Adventure Era games. The game plays differently from the original, as it incorporates more shooter elements, removing most of the fast-paced running that the original had. ![]()
